I don't really know how to describe the way i picture charectors. In my mind everyone is just made up randomly based off of my mood at that certain time. Most people dont even look the same as what the book describes them as nevertheess actors or actresses! Most of the time book charectors, i imagine, are just regular people i've seen walking down the street. Remembering peoples names and what they've done or have is diffucult for me so I have to take notes on them or i reread the section that something important has happned. So please bear with me as I try to describe these captives.
Phillip Lombard too me is a very old guy yet he doesn't have wrinkles and has a blad head with a tangly grey beard. I have no idea how to compare him to an actual person, all I know is that he was in some telivision show where everyone go stranded and he saved them with his magical powers. Phillip Lombard, in my mind, always wears a blue button down shirt, extremely white pants, very expensive, black, freshly polished, mens shoes usually worn to weddings or funurals. That is all I can picture of him and his voice isn't raspy as one might imagine being a sailor and all.
Emily Brent i picture as Trix from Gillmore Girls. It is very hard to describe her but she is a very oldschool woman who wears fancy elegant clothes, the only difference is that Emily Brent is much younger in the book rather than in my mind. Too me this is what Emily Brent looks like.

General Macarthur is very hard to decribe. I picture him not being like a grandfather but more like a crazy uncle. General Macaurthur to me has shaggy brown hair and he too wears a sailors cap just like Phillip Lombard. I can't really say much but the only picture I have of him is a plump but not totally rotund man who wears a sailors uniform and cap with shaggy brown hair sticking out of his hat. In this picture General Macaurthur is looking toward the sea chanting "they are coming, the end is near...."

I picture Dr. Armstrong as my uncle.....I have no idea whatsoever why the only educational anwser that I can come up with is that my uncle is a doctor. Doctor armstong i picture to be good looking, tall, brown hair, muscular, and a little stressed out or very precautionis.

I havent really visualed Anthony Martson because he died like 30 pages into the book which to me is pathetic but someone had too so oh well. Thinking about it now I picture him as a tall person who has a tan face and is muscular I cant really picture a celibrity for him.

I have no idea for Mr. Blore I couldn't find a very well description for him so PASS!!

Vera Claythorne I picture as Kelly from The Office she just reminds me of a more serious, older, more sophistocated Kelly.

Mr. Justice Wargrave i picture as the grandpa from UP i dont know why, thats just how my brain proccessed the details I've read about him. I would say that in my head he is taller and maybe a little less animated but you get the point.

That all I have but.....Do we have to describe Mr. and Mrs. Rogers????

Laura-
You have some good ideas. Now just put those images together into a collage -either electronically or on paper.
Again-check your links. This should be linked to the 'AND THEN THERE WERE NONE' page, not the 'here' page that everyone has done incorrectly. Did you follow all the directions?

12/3/09
Chapter 3 Assignment #3
Choose 5 Charectors.
Write two sentences telling what you know about him or her.

Of all the people in the story, I have chosen Mr. Wargrave, Vera Claythorne, Emily Brent, Doctor Armstrong, and Tony Martson. I have chosen these people because the story explains more about them rather than the others, and I find some of them suspicious. Last night I read to chapter 5, the story drew me in and i just had too read more! Either way where i am at two people have died, and I clearly know that they didn't just die because it was there time, they died because they were murdered. Vera Claythorne is a poor school teacher who is coming to the island to be Mrs. Owens secretary. Vera was blames for a crime, but was acquitted and was sent home free, also Hugo (I have a feeling he will come back in the story) said he loved her and she was madly in love with him. Emily Brent is a 65 year old woman who isn't every rich. Mrs. Brent is very picky about people nowadays, or you could say she does things the old school way. Doctor Armstrong is a good looking younger man who was a successful doctor. Dr. Armstrong cheated rich women out of their money and diagnosed them with fake illnesses, he became very successful in doing so. Tony Martson is what people could describe god like, he is tall, tan, has wispy blonde hair, and beautifully bright blue eyes. Tony Martson is very impatient and he drove a very fancy car which makes him seem rich, which most likely he is. Lastly, Mr Justice Wargrave is a retired judge who smokes cigars and like to read the paper, specifically the NY Times. That pretty much describes him, but i believe that he is the murderer! I don't have much evidence but it just seems like he is guilty. Mr Wargrave has spent much time with murders and he probably picked up a few things from that, such as drugs that cold kill someone or maybe a few tactics he has read about, all for "case study" or I'm just looking at the "defendants history." In my eyes Mr Wargrave seems guilty i don't quite know exactly for sure but for now he is the prime suspect in my eyes.

Laura- Good insights into the characters. Not quite the format I was looking for. Check someone else's ATTWN page to compare your page to theirs and you will get some idea. Also, if you do not want everything underlined, click on the U with the line under it on the edit bar.

I have a question, I am not quite understanding the meaning of Southeasternly in chapter 2??

Assignment #2 (to be done in class on Wednesday, December 2)

  • Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
  • Read chapter two.
  • On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.

THE DATE OF 12/2/09!!

Examples of foreshadowing!

"Cant land on Indian Island when theres a southeasternly. Sometimes 'tis cut off for a week or more."
"The ten little indians poem"
"She looks frightned of her own shadow"
"A world, perhaps, from which you may never return."

I feel all of these things are examples of foreshadowing, especially Dr. Armstrong's quote stating,"A world, perhaps, from which you may never return." This quote definitely has some foreshadowing in it, it could be foreshadoing that he may perhaps never get off the island alive? The ten little indians poem, like i have predicicted before, could be how everyone dies! The ten little indians poem make me feel really nervous because, it was in every room, and there are ten guests at the mansion. "She looks frightned of her own shadow" this quote is describing the maid and how maybe she has felt some weird things going on in the house. Maybe the maid knows about the horrors going too happen to these people and if she tells she will be killed. Lastly, the quote of "cant land on Indian Island when theres a southeasternly. Somes 'tis cut off for more than a week or more." This quote technically tells me that once people start getting murdered the boats will be cut off, not allowing anyone in or out. Or there will be a storm coming from the south and the boating will be shut off! This will affect the guests on the island because, that boat brings them all the necessities and it takes them back to the port. Having the boats be cut of will be really bad for the vacationers on the island, when people piece together the murders and figure out that the people are being murdered, not just dying, they will flee from the island, but have no escape.

Laura-
WOW! You nailed it. This is the best answer I have read. You have interesting quotes and your paragraph explains them well.
Next job: clean up your paragraph by finding spelling mistakes, correcting grammar and punctuation errors, and fixing run-ons.

A southeasterly is a storm coming from the south. Why would that affect the guests on the island?
Have you linked this page with the prompts page? Also, I put the line in for you between the assignments.
Mrs. M.

Thanks for putting the line in for me! My computers are being fixed so they don't work very well which is why i couldn't put the link on the prompts page.
No problem. If you click on the box to the right of the bullet box in the edit bar across the top, it will create a line for you. Mrs. M

My work on the date of.......12/1

Something links to the 10 little indian story, I think it could be how the people are....killed, or dissappeared. I just dont understand the Red Herring part.....How does someone dissappear or die from a red herring? My prediction has a bunch of holes in it but im guessing that the 10 Little Indians story has too do with the people...Are the indians symbolizing the people???? This story confuses me but all mystery stories do.
MY WORK ON THE DATE OF....... 11/30

Assignment #1
How does a mystery novel differ from a narritave?
The book And Then There Were None is a mystery novel written by Agatha Christi. Most mystery novels consist of clues and ideas that readers piece together throuout the story. These clues and ideas usually lead to a killer or the person who committed the crime. Mystery books most always involve fealonies or crimes. All of the above are chareristics of a mystery book and they dont really describe a narritive.

How might the title be a clue to the story?
Titles tell a lot about books they can be based off of, what the stories about, what the theme is, or even a simple passage from the story! This title causes me to infer that the book is about people who are trapped somewhere and are slowly being killed off or are disappearing. For me, knowing that this is a mystery novel causes me to wonder who the criminal is or the person who committed the crime.

PREDICT ABOUT THE STORY BEFORE YOU READ IT!!!!
I have no idea what this story will be about or is about except for the fact that there were 10 people and horrible things happen to all of them. I hope that this book is good and isn't boring like past books we've read for school!

Laura-
I hope you like this one, too. From past experiences, students have really like it.
Reread your post and look for mistakes; I have highlighted one of them.
